building your personal collection
I have found that the most difficult part of building a personal collection for me is patience. Not everyone needs to have patience when building their jewelry collection but for the vast majority of us, we collect one piece at a time. Um, because money… Here are some things to think about when building your timeless PC.
GO BIG GO BOLD
1) TEE-NINCEY eeny-weenie jewelry pieces are all the rage right now. I have been told countless times by women over the years that the older they get the bigger the jewelry. And I believe them. Don’t be afraid of a statement ring or a beaded necklace.
Mix and layer
Mix and match, stack and layer. There are no rules. Gold and white metal compliment eachother perfectly. Perhaps a Pearl choker. Jade beads and Yellow Gold? Jewelry is but a small piece of the larger colorful tapestry of your life. How are you going to weave yours?
MY PRECIOUS
3) Opt for precious metals. Gold Gold Gold, I am Gollum for Gold. Platinum is pure and durable. Steel is hypoallergenic and won’t tarnish. Precious metals will last a lifetime if not longer, and will always hold some value. I don’t need to do much convincing.
Stoned
2) Re-purpose your stones. Not everyone is blessed with hoards of family stones, but some of you are! If you are so lucky as to have diamonds in the family, or stones in jewelry that never see the light of day, I urge you to pop them out and put them into something you will actually wear. That way, you’ve got something spectacular AND sentimental.
Bottom line, enjoy the journey along the way. You have plenty of time. Happy curating.
